Tony McCrory of the Ladysmith 49ers was the most valuable player of the 1995 British Columbia senior boys AAA basketball tournament, leading Ladysmith to its first provincial championship.
The 6-foot-6 Grade 12 swingman scored 155 points in four games — 35, 48, 34 and 37 — breaking the tournament scoring record of 149 set by Richmond's Alan Tait 15 years earlier. His 48 points came in a quarter-final upset of the third-seeded Richmond Colts, when he also grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked 4 shots. In the final he scored 37 as Ladysmith beat the Clearbrook MEI Eagles 74-70, the first North Vancouver Island school to win the title since 1978.
"This was a team win, that's all I care about," McCrory said of the record.
